Ars Vocalis México

Ars Vocalis Mexico is an International Vocal Academy and Festival founded and directed by Carlos Zapién, which first took place summer of 2011 in Zamora de Hidalgo, Michoacan, Mexico and from 2015 has its residence in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora.. This festival offers a pedagogical program to young Mexican singers –that have been previously selected from an audition process –to have the opportunity to participate in master classes, taught by prominent figures of the operatic world of Europe and the United States; in addition to being able to work with coaches coming from diverse operatic houses and educational institutions.

Students also have the opportunity to work on German vocal repertoire (Lied) and on ancient and baroque music. Ars Vocalis Mexico gathers various internationally acclaimed exponents of vocal art to impart knowledge to the grand young vocal promises of Mexico.

During the first three years of existence, the academic section of Ars Vocalis Mexico served a total of 200 accepted students, whom submitted to a rigorous program. Young students that demonstrate vocal potential are selected to participate in Valores Mexicanos cycle and display their talent to the public through recitals. Participating students in the pedagogical program partake in several recitals (Operatic Galas, Liederabende, Early and Baroque Music, Zarzuela), while various other students are chosen to perform in the festival’s operatic productions.

Tenor Francisco Araiza, tenor Ramón Vargas, mezzosoprano Dunja Vejzović and English contratenor Michael Chance have supported the raise of Mexican singers by teaching master classes at the academic program in their respective specialties. Alongside them professors with international standings such as Eric Mentzel, Robert Hiller, Angelica Vogel and Turid Karlsen, among others, participate in a myriad of aspects.

In the history of the program, 70 musical presentations (recitals, operatic galas, and operatic montages) took place, witnessed by 140 thousand stage attendees in Zamora and Ciudad Obregón, besides its real time internet transmission and open television broadcast spectators in the state of Michoacan and Jalisco.
